Photo of Newborn Swaddled In American Flag Gets Photographer In Trouble

Posted in: , , ,

Photographer Vanessa Hicks, got herself in hot water after a newborn photo she posted to her professional Facebook page went viral. The navy veteran who is also married to a military man says she never could have anticipated the backlash she got from the photo of another military father in uniform, holding his baby in an American flag. The online furore, she said, started from a Facebook page that attacked the photo for desecrating the American flag.

Naysayers criticised the photograpgher and her husband, and also the father whose name appears in the photo as seen above. Some insisted he needed to be disciplined or sacked. But Hicks stood up for her picture and called on her friends, fans, family, and anyone who loved the picture to defend it and share. Now, she may be making prints to sell of the photo, and she believes this is a win for those in military service who often give their lives in defence of the country, the flag and all it stands for.

Kate Brown Becomes Oregon Gov as John Kitzhaber Resigns Amid Corruption Allegations

Posted in: , , , ,

The US is getting another female governor in Kate Brown after Oregon Gov. John #Kitzhaber officially resigned his office today. His resignation follows a few days of uncertainty in the government of the state amid allegations of criminal wrongdoing on the part of the governor and his fiancee. The Secretary of State Kate Brown will replace Kitzhaber, almost exactly one month after he was sworn in for an unprecedented fourth term.

John Kitzhaber is under criminal investigation by Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum's office, and also facing a review from the Oregon Government Ethics Commission, for the role his fiancee, Cylvia Hayes - pictured above with him - held in his office. It is reported that she used that role to obtain private consulting work and the governor may have participated in the corruption.

Yesterday, just before the State of the Union adress by president Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama shared a short Instagram where she was wearing the outfit above. A Twitter user quickly noted that Mrs. Obama was wearing the same dress and Michael Kors jacket worn by Julianna Margulies' character last season on 'The Good Wife.'

Hashtags and memes ensued as commentators compared the designer attire worn by FLOTUS to its on-screen version. Some naysayers also brought up the point that the dress had been worn by Alicia Florrick, the wife of a disgraced politician in the hit TV series.

But those are just haters. See more photos of the stunning Michelle below...I think the outfit looks amazing on her, and check out her figure for a woman of 50!

The US Supreme Court Agrees To Rule On Gay Marriage

Posted in: , , ,

The Supreme Court agreed Friday to resolve the national debate over same-sex marriage once and for all. The justices will consider four cases from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, consolidated and heard together. They will hear 2 1/2 hours of oral arguments in April and issue a ruling before the current term ends in late June.

The new challenges to gay marriage bans are destined to become even more of a landmark than those decided by the court in 2013 — United States v. Windsor, which forced the federal government to recognize gay marriages, and Hollingsworth v. Perry, which made California the 13th state to allow them.
